Languages have always been a massive part of my life. They were the one subject I genuinely connected with at school, and that passion never left me. I started learning French in primary school, picked up German in Year 7, and added Spanish in Year 10. I have both lived and worked in France, and spent a lot of time in Spain. Since then, I’ve dabbled in Portuguese and, more recently, Italian on Duolingo (I really do practise what I preach!).
What I love most about languages is how they open doors to new people, new cultures, and new ways of seeing the world. I spend a lot of time in France and have a deep love for its culture, but the ability to connect with others in real, everyday situations keeps me inspired. Language brings people closer together, whether it’s asking for directions, ordering food, or having a heartfelt conversation; it’s beautiful in the way it binds us.
I’m especially passionate about the way Spanish and French can shape a child’s future. These languages can quite literally take students around the world helping them build confidence, broaden their horizons, and become more well-rounded individuals. It can help form new friendships and open them up to new opportunities. It gives them a voice in a global word and the confidence to use it.
In my lessons, I draw on a wide collection of resources to keep learning engaging and enjoyable. I always aim to tap into each student’s unique learning style, building a strong relationship so they feel safe, supported, and confident to take risks because that’s when real learning happens. Every student deserves the chance to thrive, and I’m here to help them do just that.
